Windsurfing: Poole Harbour Wind Direction: SW? Wind Stength: light to 18 Surf / Sea State: flat to choppy Air Temperature: 19 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: mainly cloudy Max Speed: 22.3 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 28.7 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Drove from the campsite checking out various spots on the
way,Keyhaven, several beaches in Christchurch bay ending up at Mudeford
Harbour but we could'nt park so we continued on to Poole Harbour with the
aim to sail around Brownsea Island after my last effort ended in disaster
with a broken mast.We were not holding out much hope of finding anywhere to
park at Sandbanks on a bank holiday weekend!!! We were lucky and got a spot
toward the sandbanks end and as the 30 kiters and several windsurfers were
going nowhere fast I was in no hurry to rig.Time for lunch in the van,rig
the 8.5,set the gps and head off on the beat toward Poole marina leaving
Mag to read her book. The wind was very light in the bottom corner of the
harbour and I can,t believe why it is so popular with anyone other than
learners !!! because as soon as you reached the end of Brownsea Isand at
the Hamworthy Beach the wind increased to nearly 20 mph !!!I then had
several mega flat out 2+mile reaches heading toward Studland behind
Brownsea Island, there was a couple of other windsurfers out and a lone
kiter and if I go again I would launch from Hamworthy or Bramble Bush
Bay/Studland.I then completed the trip sailing past the very busy harbour
entrance where I saw Xavier Ferlet out on his formula gear!!! When I got
back to the after nearly 3 hrs Mag had gone for a walk around sandbanks to
look at the big houses and listen to people moaning about what a crap place
it was with no access to the water and traffic jams !!!! Then fish and
chips at Mudeford Harbour to end another great day !!!!
